Miller and Frankfurt share similar ideas about the meaning of "truth." Frankfurt believes that truth is an objective, tangible concept that is necessary to be understood by all members of society in order for society to function harmoniously. Frankfurt believes that even those beliefs that we consider opinions are still facts because they are based on facts.

Miller believes that truth in memoir is dependent on facts. Miller believes that a memoir must be factual in order to keep its integrity as a memoir as opposed to a work of fiction. This idea is similar to Frankfurt's idea of truth. Even if some of the ideas and viewpoints discussed in a memoir are "opinions," these opinions are drawn from real-life events. Since the commentary in a memoir is based on facts, the memoir itself can be considered "truth."
